Don't Drop The Flower

Don't Drop The Flower depicts a transparent child-sized girl holding the Hong Kong orchid, which has been the floral emblem of Hong Kong since 1965. The girl is walking and gazing up towards the light, symbolizing a Hongkongese searching for hope in the future while protecting the fragile symbol of Hong Kong. By telling Lo Ting's story, I spread awareness of Hongkongese. The petals of the Hong Kong orchid record her path. The transparent body of the girl creates a vicarious character, while the refraction of the clear glass mimics the sense of freezing the moment. The girl tries to leave a trail of the petals behind as evidence of the Hongkongese's struggle between the Chinese and British times. However, time will eventually wash away the local identity of Hongkongese. Therefore, the least I could do is to freeze this moment of seeking in my glass sculpture and preserve the unresolved Hong Kong identity before it gets consumed by the other in the wild world.
